“I consider him the “gold standard”

Kathleen Pfeffer“As a pediatric sleep specialist, I rely on the polysomnographer scoring sleep studies to provide me with data that is reliable and timely. Pediatric sleep studies are very challenging to score because all of the channels that are being monitored, particularly the EEG and the respiratory signals change as the patient grows and develops. The EEG of an infant, or even premature infant, looks nothing like the EEG of a 4 y/o and less like that of a 16 y/o.Having a polysomnographer who is well versed in and comfortable with the scoring criteria for each age is mandatory. Because of the age-dependent differences, scoring a study can take much longer than is typical for an adult study. Additionally, children – of all ages – can be very sensitive to the “hook-up” resulting in leads that have been pulled off and are unlikely to be tolerated for extended periods throughout the study. This requires the polysomnographer to pay very close attention to the leads that are in place and readable, and to the audiovideo monitor to enhance the ability to score events that need to be scored.
Jeff Bennion has scored pediatric sleep studies for me for more than 13 years. His results are solid. I consider him the “gold standard’ against whom I compare other polysomnographers’ work. He is very focused, if not intense, when he is scoring. He is timely, accurate and succinct. He is also a professional, responding to queries about his or others’ work with openness and curiosity, rather than defensiveness, hostility or arrogance. In that regard, any differences in opinion regarding scoring issues have always been due to lack of knowledge on my part, not his.
If I were starting- up a pediatric sleep lab, I would be thrilled if I had Jeff as my head polysomnographer. My ability to make a correct diagnosis in a clinical setting, based on sleep study results that he read or trained other polysomnographers to read would be beyond reproach. In my 31 years practicing pediatric pulmonary medicine and 23  years practicing pediatric sleep medicine, I can confidently and enthusiastically state that working with Jeff and believing in his work has been the one “constant”  – day to day and year to year, in the otherwise ever-changing medical field.”

“His services have been outstanding!”

Cheryl Brown Picture“A few years ago I purchased a struggling sleep lab in Bakersfield, California.  One of the reasons that the company was struggling was due to poor turnaround time on sleep studies, among other things.  I didn’t have a lot of prior experience in the sleep industry and I needed some help to turn things around.  I was put in contact with Jeff Bennion and have been working with him ever since.  His services have been outstanding!  I was looking for someone that I could trust and that could score our sleep studies within 24 hours.  Jeff has really delivered.  His knowledge and professionalism have been extremely helpful to me on many occasions. Jeff has never let us down.  In addition to scoring our studies he has created report templates, prepared preliminary interpretations, provided technical help, and given friendly consultation and advice.  He is someone that our medical providers and interpreting physicians have come to trust and count on.  His work is exceptionally fast and of the highest quality.”
